CEU Course Description

This course describes the transformative potential of gamification and virtual reality (VR) in physical therapy, offering innovative ways to engage patients and improve rehabilitation outcomes. Course participants will learn how gamification techniques, such as rewards, challenges, and progress tracking, can motivate patients and enhance adherence to treatment plans, while VR provides immersive, patient-specific environments that promote motor learning, balance, and cognitive recovery. This course will explore the benefits of these technologies for various patient populations, including those with neurological conditions, orthopedic injuries, and chronic pain, and provide practical strategies for integrating gamified exercises and VR into clinical practice. Additionally, the course will address challenges like cost, accessibility, and ethical considerations and equip PTs and PTAs with tools to evaluate the effectiveness of these interventions. By the end, participants will be ready to apply gamification and VR to enhance patient engagement and clinical outcomes in their own practice.

CEU Course Objectives

  1. Recall techniques to integrate gamified exercises and virtual reality interventions into physical therapy treatment plans to enhance patient engagement, motivation, and rehabilitation outcomes
  2. Recognize tools and metrics to assess the impact of gamification and VR on patient progress and apply evidence-based strategies to adjust interventions for optimal results.
  3. Identify and navigate common challenges, such as cost, accessibility, and training, while addressing ethical considerations related to patient privacy, consent, and the responsible use of technology in therapy.
