CEU Course Description

The term geriatric refers to the population over 65 years old. The term older adult is often used interchangeably with geriatric. There are over 54 million older adults in the United States, which is around fifteen percent of the population. This group represents around 45 percent of the top healthcare expenditures in the country, making it necessary for every healthcare provider to be educated on managing geriatric patients. In this course, physical therapists and physical therapist assistants will learn an overview of the economic impact of geriatric care, common physical therapy examination impairments, considerations of comorbidities in geriatric care, social considerations like living situations, treatment approaches to optimize mobility, and how to comprehensively care for our older adult population.
