CEU Course Description
The Washington state rate of suicide has been higher than the national average for more than a decade. Suicide can affect anyone, no matter age, ethnicity, sex, gender, or personal factors. This course will describe patient-centered methods for screening for suicide, methods for referring to other providers, resources available to patients at risk of suicide, and appropriate communication throughout patient interactions. It will also detail the scope of suicide risk in terms of epidemiology, etiology, and Washington state law regarding the required responses of healthcare professionals. Physical therapists and physical therapist assistants are required to undergo training in suicide prevention to best meet the complex needs of this patient population with compassion.
