CE Credit Hours: 1.00 Continuing Education Credit Hours
CEU Course Description
Functional disability can last for many years in critical illness survivors. Due to an aging population, and increasing survival from critical illness, the burden of physical and cognitive disability among patients discharged from the intensive care unit is also increasing. The goal of this CEU course is to assess the safety and feasibility of in-bed cycling started within the first 4 days of mechanical ventilation.
CEU Course Objectives
1. Describe for which condition early mobilization is recommended as a front-line non-pharmacological intervention to reduce the incidence and duration of critically ill patients.
2. Explain how cycling targets the areas most vulnerable to muscle atrophy and weakness during bed rest.
3. Identify an important barrier to receipt of mobilization within the first 14 days of mechanical ventilation.
